Hello all,
I currently have a Samsung Digimax A6 - 6.0 MP. This camera has converted me to digital and mad me so much more interested in photography. I have been able to take some great shots BUT.....
I wish to buy a better camera that will allow me to get more professional shots and also teach me more about photography (so one with SLR option). Also I need somthing quite sturdy as i begin a big adventure travelling over ground back home to england from Japan. My budget is low under 500 pounds. I have no idea where to start looking and what is good, out there. I am a bit stuck in asking in the shops as i live in japan and can't speak the lanuage well enough to ask. Also whilst i'm hear in Japan, I thought it might be easy to get something good and affordable now.
Any advice on what is out there and what people like and are using at the moment, would be warmly recieved.
Thankyou and hopefully you'll pass on by to my blog soon, and i too yours.

A DSLR for 500?

Canon EOS350D - Image quality is very good. With the EOS400D just released you should get it a bit cheaper but don't go for the stock lens, it's rubbish, Canon can do much better than that.

Nikon D50 - Not massively featured but images are smooth and Nikon lenses are terrific.

Nikon D70s - Powerful camera but you need to explore it's considerable depths to get the best out of it. One to grow into.

Konica Minolta Dynax 5D - Better than the EOS350D and much cheaper.

There is also the Pentax *ist DS and Olympus E-300 also the Sony Alpha are not to be knocked either.

I don't know where you like to do your shopping, but there are a couple of Olympus dslr kits that you could buy for under 500 if you shop wisely. LCE have very good prices.
There's the e-300
and the e-500.

I've just bought the e-400 kit, which is fantastic to use and the kits lenses are wonderful. The price has gone down quite a bit since the camera was released last year. If you can wait a month or so the prices may drop even more because I believe they are bringing out three more models in March.
