I wanted to collect some reserach information as to what the allure is in photography ? Why do people keep photo albums? Why are people more likely to take pictures at an event as opposed to everyday life?

Your views and opinions welcome

Hi Icepix, I think the magic of the photos is that we think we can capture a moment in time, and sometimes just watching that photo brings back all the other memories, sound, smell, the feel of a warm day...

I know because thatís what I try to achieve with my pictures.

Thank You
Javier

You know... you see something and suddenly you're overwhelmed with the desire to "possess it"... no, "to share it"... but if you're not fast enough that moment will disappear forever, and so you grab your camera and Snap, snap!

But above all really (I think) that the photographer is also an artist that wants to "draw", "sketch", if you like "write about" what she/he is seeing but the "pencil" of choice is the camera.

I think that's why I love photography...

photography has made me stop and LOOK...as opposed to moving at rapid pace as todays world requires! I see things that i would have gone right past before...it slows me down and allows me to think

yes its about art and yes its about capturing the moment, but most of all its about seeing what is there for what it is and achnowledging it in your own way

That's what a friend of mine wrote to me the other day:
"...I'm starting to look at things as if i were going to do it. I saw an empty locust shell outside my house and wanted to take a picture of it and name it "metamorphosis". This morning my hydrangea which had been gasping and crispy for the last month had a teeny quarter sized bloom on it and i wanted to take a picture and name it "hope". Pale shades of what you do though my friend..."
I was humbled and flattered at the same time that my view of the world can influence someone elseís perception of things around us.

I and my photoblogger friend both agreed that there is this something that eyes cannot see but the camera does. And that is why we keep on taking pictures of anything under the sun...to find what the human eyes cannot see. I hope I make sense here lol!

I cannot help but have my breath taken away at times by the moon, the way the sun hits the water, reflections - you get the idea.

It is that moment that I wish to freeze, to take home in my pocket, to remember and to smile when I look back on the picture.

There are disposable images too that you capture that do nothing for you when you see them again but you live for that one that makes you gasp - or at least that is what I live for.

Rocks my world, truly does.
