Hi Jimmy,

As a proud owner of the camera you are planning on buying, I would love to give you some advice about it.

First, its an amazing camera. I loved it from the day I unboxed it. If you're familiar with Nikon's SLRs then you dont have to worry. If this is your first dSLR it might take you some time figuring out where stuff is.

The low light capabilities of this camera are amazing! up to iso 3200 is still usable and even 6400 can look great under the right conditions.

Picture quality is amazing and the kit lens that comes with the camera (18-105mm) is pretty decent, although once you realize the kit lens' limitations, you'll be shopping for some faster glass and you cant go wrong with the 50mm f1.8 (about $100 here in the US).

Video is decent. If you are taking short clips and not moving the camera too much then its great. But if you have to run around and chase after your subject the video will come out really wobbly. Also you can only use the autofocus before you start recording the movie clip, after youve started, you will have to manually focus. And although 720p is HD its no 1080p like the Canon 5D, 7D or T1i.

Speaking of the Canons, I would say that you should look into their line as well if cost is an issue. I've noticed that their cameras that have similar specs to the D90 come out about 100 to 200 dollars cheaper. (I just realized that you shoot with a d40 after checking out your shutterchance but it never hurts to check out the competition once in a while)

The last thing I want to point out for the D90 is that it will take any lens in the entire nikon line all the way back to 1969 since nikon has used the same mount ever since then. I use a couple old film SLR primes on my D90 (50mm f1.4 and 24mm f2.8) and they are just amazing. Plus, its a good way to save some money on new lenses if you can find some older Nikon Lenses at Thrift stores or Yard Sales.

I cant speak more highly about this camera. Its a great camera if you are just starting out or even if you are seasoned Photog (although by looking at your shutterchance, I realize that you are definitely a seasoned photog).

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the D90. And if you want to see some sample shots you can check out my flickr:

Hope you found what you needed in my reply

Take a look at

www.kenrockwell.com

He provides fabulous reviews of many cameras including the D90. I'm also a proud owner of this camera. I purchased it as it had all the features of the more expensive D300, but wthout the HD Movie mode, a feature that has no interest to me at all.

The kit lens is okay, and is generally pretty sharp all over except at 18mm when it does soften up in the corners..

Hope this helps.

The D90 is a champ, if you've not gotten it yet, you should. I love everything about mine. Money well spent.
