Photoshop is rather costly for hobbists, and can put poeple off rather needed postprocessing. You might want to check out Paint .NET. It's free (I believe it started off as a student project), and has many of the features needed to touch up your shots.

You can read more about it and grab a copy here:

The alternative to costly Photoshop may actually free Photoshop. Apparently they are to release a free, ad-supported online version.

I doubt if the online version can be of any use for more serious photographers. I guess it will be a light version of Photoshop Elements. How would I upload a 20Mb RAW file to process it on the web. I think it would require lots of bandwidth to make sense. Then again, let's see what is happening. very curious.

The best option is to use Gimp (http://www.gimp.org). Though there are some features lacking compared to Photoshop, it serves most of the requirements for any post processing.

I just read an article this week about FAUXTO, have you seen that already, that is really interesting, with a photoshop like look and feel, I guess it will be killed by online photoshop, but is a nice thing. Couldn't save my image though after processing, but really lovely idea for when on the go or don't have photoshop

Photoshop is an art . Not everyone have command over it. I have also spend too much amount of my time on Photoshop but still there are lots of techniques that have to be learned by me as it is updating day by day and one should have complete command over it. Now am gonna make something regarding Memorial day as it is about to come. I have taken help from wativ.com as it has huge collection of different ideas and i can easily take them by using
