camera settings...

Hi!

I've noticed that the "camera settings"-feature changed... now it appears when one hoover over the photo... personally I don't like it - the old design was cleaner and more subtle - so I wonder if that will be changed to an optional setting...

With kind regards,

N Minelmio

I'll second that. Although it's very stylish, it seems to be a bit erratic as to whether it works or not. On balance I think I prefer the older method.

I still prefer the older method, but I think I've found the problem: In the html, you've got onMouseOver="myHint.show('EXIF') in the tag which shows the actual photo. However, if you've got right-click disabled, there's a same-sized spacer.gif image absolutely positioned over the top of the photo. Presumably if you mouseover the photo, the browser is actually firing a mouseover event on the spacer gif rather than the photo itself, and of course there isn't such an event specified. You could probably fix this by putting the mouseover event in the spacer tag rather than the photo tag, if the blogger has chosen right-click disable. Phew.

Sorry , I've accidentally put html tags in the post above. They're all supposed to read < IMG >

Yup - just tested it by saving the html of my latest page, modifying the mouseover on the space.gif to include the myHint.show('EXIF') and it works.

Thanks a lot Steve! We've also been working on the code on this side, but haven't yet updated all the blogs with the new code. The updates should be effective by the end of the day.

Minelmio, we appreciate your feedback. We have received feedback from both sides so far - some people like the new system and some prefer the old one. At present, we're not too keen on having a choice between the old and new systems. The reason is so that all the blogs will have similar layouts and functionality. So once a person is familiar with the interface, then he can visit any blog and immediately feel at home.

Having said that, we're still evaluating the new system and may revert back to the old display if there is a large demand for it. Also, if you guys could elaborate what you'd like improved, we'll try to make the changes. Is the box too big? Does it display for too long? etc.

The motivation for changing to the new system is because we received numerous feedback that visitors missed the "camera settings" link in the old system. It just wasn't obvious enough. So to make things more obvious, we decided to display the EXIF data in a mouseover.

I'll have to admit that todays transparent version is really nice... as subtle as I like it to be... so need for "optionals" for me!

Thanks for the feedback Minelmio. We've been trying hard to tweak the design - mainly to make it more compact and less intrusive. Glad that you like the transparent version!

The transparency was disabled for about 30mins whiile we were tweaking the system. It should be back now with improved compatibility. Previously it was working only in Internet Explorer. Now it should work in Mozilla/Firefox too!

I LIKE the new design, just find grey on white hard to read. I thought it was changed because it was a stylish neat way to show it .... not because some people found it hard to find the info ..... How hard? Even I figured it out after a day or two ..... The old way was NOT difficult to find, for heaven's sake .... There was a link which was obvious enough, and really do you HAVE to cater for the lowest common denominator? This quest to make things easy is admirable, but surely to god people can be expected to open their eyes and LOOK - rather than having to be spoonfed everything?

I suppose that's what's called "dumbing down " ... everything is presented pre-digested on a gold platter.....
